GAME OF THRONES SETTINGS AND HORSE RIDES: OSUNA. SPAIN
By Carmen Hermosín Román
Spain caught the eye of the directors of the fifth season of the series on the lookout for exteriors. Osuna and Seville (in Andalusia in southern Spain) were among the locations.
Spain has been a popular location for the series, which has made the most of the country’s many ancient sites, including castles, cathedrals and some of Spain’s most beautiful and well-preserved old towns.
Spain has filled in for the warmer climes of Dorne, the most southerly of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, and the lands of Essos, across the Narrow Sea. The bullring of the Andalusian town of Osuna became the fighting pits of Meereen.
Osuna has been mentioned in publications halfway around the world, and was once described by the US edition of GQ magazine as “a Spanish town so idyllic it looks like it’s been drawn by Pixar!”
